“Princess Diaries” Wedding Inspiration
Bella Cosa
“The inspiration was the movie Princess Diaries. It’s a classic movie and one of my all-time favorites. When this movie came out I used to watch it all the time and never got sick of it. Now that my daughter is old enough to appreciate the movie, I watched it with her, and it inspired me to create one of my favorite movies into a wedding theme.” – Amanda Biery, owner and lead event planner at The Olive Tree Weddings
FEATURING
Calling all iconic girl movie fans! This Lake Wales wedding inspiration shoot channels all the timeless elegance and whimsy of the iconic film Princess Diaries through a charming estate setting, luxurious flora, and, of course, pears!
“The inspiration was the movie Princess Diaries. It’s a classic movie and one of my all-time favorites. When this movie came out I used to watch it all the time and never got sick of it. Now that my daughter is old enough to appreciate the movie, I watched it with her, and it inspired me to create one of my favorite movies into a wedding theme,” Amanda Biery, owner and lead event planner at The Olive Tree Weddings, shared. “I was on a mission to find the iconic blue Mustang, and once I found someone local who had that car, I put the whole thing into motion. I chose sage, blush, mauve, greenery, and whites. By nature, I am drawn to whites and greenery, but I wanted to add some color without it being overbearing or vibrant. I wanted to add some pears into this design because it’s the Genovian fruit, so adding different shades of green was easy, and blush and mauve would go the best with my vision and design.”
As a nod to the classic chick flick movie, it was a no-brainer that the official fruit of Genova would be incorporated into the decor. Amanda implemented an easy DIY project for the setup by elevating fresh pears with decorative pearl pins for a playful yet elegant element to the tablescape. Damask patterned linens from Over The Top Linen Rentals gave the dining tables a classic look while adding to the thoughtfully designed place settings and lush floral arrangements. Faceted crystal stemware added a touch of lux to the European gelato from The Gelato Carte.
“I kept it modern and elegant like a wedding setup but wanted subtle hints of the movie incorporated in the design. Nothing too overbearing, but if you know the movie, you’d know right away by looking at all the details,” the planner revealed.
The bride donned an ethereal ballgown with balloon sleeves featuring a watercolor floral print reminiscent of a museum painting. The hair and makeup artists at Femme Akoi Beauty Studio created a timeless bridal look with natural tones, bold brows, and a sleek hairstyle of a perfectly coiffed chignon. Of course, a sparkly tiara completed the look for an obligatory photo opp!
From details, great and small, each element was carefully curated to achieve a beautiful and traditional look while also channeling the Princess Diaries vibe. Even the mini dress, walkman accessory, and the dreamy blue convertible contributed to the overall story.
“I really loved seeing all the details come together. It’s really crazy when you think about it, that you can just picture something in your head and bring it all to life. The vendors totally understood the assignment, too,” the planner raved. “When I do styled shoots, I really like to give vendors creative freedom within the vibe/theme, and everyone nailed it.”
