Moody Same-Sex Wedding Inspiration
“For our color palette, we chose reds and pinks with some moody accents of green and black. The color scheme was our source of inspiration, and it let all the other details fall into place” -Amanda Biery, Lead Event Planner at The Olive Tree Weddings
Offering a colorful part of Tampa’s history and charm, the Ybor City district is known for its cobblestone streets, meandering roosters, and charming building facades that tell the tales of former lives as cigar factories, social halls, and cafes. One such destination is the stylish Hotel Haya, a boutique hotel boasting trendy accommodations, ample event space, and luxurious amenities and dining options. With a recent expansion and unveiling of their new event setting, the Los Novadades room, this vibrant Ybor City wedding shoot embraces the narrative of the stained glass windows and tiled walls to inspire a styled shoot filled with colorful flora and candlelight accented with striking black details.
“For our color palette, we chose reds, pinks, and oranges with some moody accents of green and black,” Amanda Biery, Lead Event Planner at The Olive Tree Weddings shared. “The color scheme was our source of inspiration, and it let all the other details fall into place!”
The new wedding event space boasts brick and plastered walls studded with painted tile and arched door frames and windows that allow natural light to pour in. High ceilings lend an airiness to the venue, while delicate, modern lighting provides warmth without impeding the views above.
“The new Los Novadades room at Hotel Haya is so unique and moody and has so much character,” the planner gushed. “I tried to let the space speak for its self and just some color to the space to add some contrast.”
Stained glass windows with shades of warm persimmon, creamy gold, and eucalyptus green provided a stunning focal point backdrop and helped inspire the organic floral garland that climbed the stuccoed wall, perfectly framing the couple during the intimate ceremony shoot.
“We really wanted to showcase the beautiful stained glass and history of these windows, so Amanda and I came up with a design to make that a focus. That was my favorite part of the shoot!” Danielle Zechmann, owner of Save the Date Florida Wedding and Event Floral Design raved.
To capture the decor and memorable moments, photographer Autumn & Jendry and content creators Behind the Vows documented every detail.

With unique details gracing every inch of the space, the setting is ideal for couples who seek trend-setting attire, saturated tones, and non-traditional elements. In this case, the chic hues of the groom’s dapper suits felt authentic to the surrounding atmosphere, and a fun smoke-bubble send-off, courtesy of Tampa Bay DJ Co., created a memorable photo op.
“Our couple fit the vision perfectly, and they actually used their own suits from their wedding which fit in perfectly with the theme and color palette!” Amanda revealed. “I love that we were able to be the first in the space to create some fun photos, and of course, DJ Cory Barron coming in with the smoke bubbles was a fun addition.”
While neutral weddings have long been a favorite, the wedding planner encourages couples to lean into color choices and not be afraid to have a moody wedding vibe.
“This wedding style would be perfect for someone with a smaller guest count and a couple who loves color,” the planner advised. “With the black beams and lighting, one could fully commit to the moody feel with black linens to complement the black bentwood chairs, which are my personal favorite.”
