Florida, But Make it Disco
“I would describe the vibes and theme as ‘Tropical Disco’. With many of our events occurring near the beach, the tropical theme is common for weddings, and I wanted to add a fun and playful element with the addition of the disco balls. I will never get tired of the disco ball trend! I wanted to focus on bright hues that would offer a strong contrast with the tropical greens, opting for shades of pink, purple, golden rod, and small pops of white/neutrals.” -Kristin Wright, owner and lead event planner at Just Wright Events
Drawing inspiration from the sunshine state, this whimsical Madeira Beach wedding inspiration shoot featured a modern take on a tropical motif, with bright pops of citrus colored flora and plenty of sparkle, from disco ball decor to a bubbly bar cart and champagne trolley send off.
“I would describe the vibes and theme as ‘Tropical Disco’. With many of our events occurring near the beach, the tropical theme is common for weddings, and I wanted to add a fun and playful element with the addition of the disco balls. I will never get tired of the disco ball trend! This theme was brought to life with details ranging from the ceiling installation to the small touches within the tablescapes,” Kristin Wright, Owner and Lead Event Planner at Just Wright Events shared. “I wanted to focus on bright hues that would offer a strong contrast with the tropical greens, opting for shades of pink, purple, golden yellow, and small pops of white/neutrals. Bringing in the black dance floor to play off of the dark ceilings and wood elements created a strong contrast, which made the color palette pop even more!”
With its neutral finishes and timeless details, the space at The West Events offered the perfect backdrop for the styled shoot. Located just steps from the beach, the venue offers an intimate retreat, with indoor and outdoor spaces loaded with character.
“The West Events offers so much versatility and allows any couple to truly create their own space,” the planner raved. “Whether you decide to do a more traditional wedding/reception or a cocktail-style reception, either can work nicely in this space. The venue offers a rustic but modern feel with a lot of natural lighting and is a blank slate for any vision!”
Jessica Cruz Photography and Caroline Allen Photography were both on hand to capture all the unique details. Memorable experiences were threaded throughout the evening, including a fresh citrus seating chart display, champagne tap cart, and customized coconut cocktails. The dance floor was hopping thanks to a live country band, while a fun party bus provided the perfect send off for the couple.
“This was a live styled shoot during an open house at the venue, which gave couples a chance to interact with vendors while enjoying the setup and entertainment,” Kristin revealed. “Megan from The Collaborative Blonde customized the mirror in the bar area to showcase the bar selection and also customized a seating chart display. Nauti Coconuts featured items that can be customized as favors or gifts. One of my favorite elements was the live demo by Kirklyn at Memorable Bottles as she created a custom wall art piece out of a champagne bottle. It was a blast having Wasted Major Band all the way from Tennessee! They performed throughout the event and showcased a live band setup in the venue, and I loved Star Trolley’s new Champagne Room! This party bus is so unique and offers such a cute space for any bride and her girls for gachelorette parties or day of transportation.”
The bride donned a shimmering gossemer gown with high slit and juliette-sleeves, accented with a natural makeup look and soft waves courtesy of Femme Akoi Beauty Studio. When it came time to party, she slipped into a silver sequined fringe mini dress with bedazzled cowboy hat, fit for the dance floor.
For couples looking for a different type of reception, the social elements of a cocktail-style gathering offers a more relaxed environment. The less structured formalities allow more opportunities for unique guest experiences and focus on socializing outside of a small, seated table.
“This type of setup would be ideal for the couple who would enjoy a cocktail-style reception, featuring minimal seating throughout the venue and a free-flow feel for the evening. Entertainment, dancing, and activities like yard games are the main focus for guests to enjoy. Food would be in a station format where guests can eat as they please throughout the event instead of a seated/scheduled dinnertime,” the planner detailed.
Consider decorative elements that can serve dual-purpose at the wedding to help stretch your budget. Ceremony flowers may be able to transition to the reception space, allowing them more time to be fully enjoyed and appreciated.
“So many items can be repurposed from ceremony, especially for a cocktail-style reception. Arch flowers can be placed on sweetheart table, while any aisle décor can be repurposed to guest tables. Chair florals can be popped into bud vases for cocktail tables,” the planner advises. “Also look at the guest count and consider how much seating you would like to offer throughout the venue for guests, whether this be lounge furniture or actual tables with seats. I always suggest reserving a few tables for family and wedding party!”
