Terracotta, Pink, and Orange Southwestern Wedding Inspiration
RED MESA EVENTS
“We chose a modern Southwestern aesthetic for several reasons: the venue, the opportunity to celebrate both culture and creativity, and to play around with various colors and floral options. A vibrant, but warm color palette was what we wanted. The color palette for this theme is alive with warm, earthy tones such as terracotta, rust, pinks, oranges, and vibrant greens. These colors not only evoke the natural beauty of the Southwest but also create a warm, romantic atmosphere, perfect for a wedding setting and Red Mesa Events.” –Katy Turchich-Martin, Coastal Coordinating
In a colorful tribute to the vibrant Mexican culture, this downtown St. Petersburg wedding inspiration shoot combined desert-inspired flora, earthy terracotta, and warm textiles for a bright and energetic celebration. The rooftop ceremony overlooked the surrounding cityscape, while the reception featured natural wood elements, distinct glassware, and romantic candlelight.
“Our inspiration stemmed from a collaboration with one of our lead planners, who was so excited about the opportunity to shoot this venue and her desire to highlight the beauty and warmth of her Mexican heritage. We’ve always enjoyed working at this venue; it has such an inviting energy and vibrant character, and we wanted to create something that celebrated that atmosphere in a way that felt personal and meaningful,” Katy Turchich-Martin, Lead Planner and Designer at Coastal Coordinating, shared. “We felt it was important to incorporate elements that reflected that background: the rich colors, the textures, and the sense of community and joy that are at the heart of Mexican celebrations. The shoot was really about blending that cultural authenticity with modern wedding design, and showing how a space like this can transform into something elegant, heartfelt, and full of life.”

“Katy from Coastal Coordinating reached out with her vision for this Mexican-inspired styled shoot. We tried to play on the vibes from the venue, by using fun cacti, marigolds, and other bright hot pink, red, and orange flowers. We loved how unique and colorful it turned out.”

The Planning

“We absolutely loved the tablescape and ceremony set design. The vibrant colors, organic plants, and thoughtful cultural accents created a lively, authentic atmosphere that perfectly reflected the heart of our theme.
For a more modern twist, we incorporated contemporary design elements—think sleek lines, minimalistic decor, and fresh takes on traditional motifs—creating a perfect balance that feels both elegant and inviting.
With the Southwestern theme, we wanted to bring in nature: The Southwestern landscape offers breathtaking scenery—from desert vistas to lush gardens. This theme encourages the integration of natural elements into the decor, such as succulents and cacti, allowing us to bring the beauty of the outdoors into their celebration. We added these to the ceremony and reception space. We pulled in elements that we were inspired by the theme by sourcing them locally and including those little pops at the bar, tablescape decor, and welcome experiences.”

The Venue
“Red Mesa Events fits the theme since it embodies the spirit and style we wanted to showcase. The venue’s architectural design, with its warm tones, textured brick walls, and rustic charm, set the stage for an authentic Southwest-Mexican feel without having to over-style the space. It naturally carries the sense of culture and connection that we wanted this styled shoot to celebrate.
It’s also a beloved local spot, which adds an extra layer of meaning. For couples who live in the area, it feels familiar and full of character; for those coming in from out of town, it offers a genuine taste of the downtown St. Pete area’s personality and hospitality. It’s the kind of place that instantly makes people feel welcome, a true reflection of what a wedding celebration should be.”

“I wanted to celebrate the vibrant spirit of the Southwestern and Mexican culture while keeping a balance between the trends that couples love to see and what is timeless and traditional. Our venue set the tone for something warm, authentic, and full of personality. We leaned into the current trends of bold, sun-soaked palettes, textured florals, and eclectic tablescapes, but grounded it with classic touches of the terracotta pottery, romantic candlelight, and traditional touches in the fashion and decor. The result leaving us with a celebration of that felt both modern and deeply rooted in tradition–alive with color, joy, and connection.
We balanced modern wedding trends with timeless details by blending bold, current design elements—like rich colors, textured florals, and contemporary glassware—with classic touches such as romantic lighting and elegant tablescapes. The venue’s warm, rustic architecture tied everything together, creating a look that feels both fresh and enduring—a perfect mix of modern creativity and timeless charm.”

The Content Creation
Behind the Vows

What should be considered to recreate this theme for an actual wedding?
To recreate this theme for their wedding, it’s important to find the right balance between authenticity and atmosphere. Start by choosing a venue that already has character, something with texture, warmth, and a sense of place, like a cantina or hacienda-style space. From there, build on those natural elements rather than covering them up.
Color and detail are also a big contribution to recreating this theme. Embrace rich, earthy tones, vibrant florals, and handcrafted details that nod to Mexican culture, like ceramic tableware, woven textiles, or locally-inspired decor. Layering textures and mixing materials helps everything feel intentional yet effortless.
Most importantly, focus on the experience you want for your guests: great food, lively music, and an inviting, joyful vibe. This style is about creating connection and celebrating the love in a way that feels genuine and spirited.
