Lauren and Tirthan
The Resort at Longboat Key Club | Powel Crosley Estate
“Our wedding design inspiration varies with the events we had, but kept the same warm mood. We chose a mix of bright, warm colors, slightly different for every event, to create a moody, inviting environment that matched our venues’ vibes.” -The Bride
Lauren and Tirthan’s vibrant Sarasota wedding was a beautiful fusion of cultures, reflecting the bride’s American roots and the groom’s Indian heritage. The New York couple hosted their 245 guests for an elegant sunrise beach ceremony followed by an evening reception set against the backdrop of waterfront views and a glistening sunset. The April celebration featured colorful decor, elegant floral arrangements in shades of romantic pink and glamorous gold, which paired beautifully with their delectable cuisine and lively entertainment, for a truly unforgettable evening.
“Tirthan and I currently live on the Upper East Side, in New York City. We chose the Sarasota area for our wedding because the beaches there mean so much to us,” the bride shared. “We both grew up in Lakeland, and take regular vacations with my family to Anna Maria Island. Tirthan proposed on Bean Point in November. Sarasota is extra special to us because my parents were also married in Sarasota. Our wedding week started on Tuesday evening with the Mendhi, then on Wednesday with the Haldi, hosted by Tirthan’s parents.”

The Proposal
“Tirthan did such an amazing job with the proposal. He had my family invite us to what I thought was an early Thanksgiving the weekend before in Anna Maria Island (since we usually celebrate actual Thanksgiving with Tirthan’s family). On one of the nights there, before we all had plans to go out to a nice dinner, my mom told me she was going to visit a friend’s beach house on Bean Point. She then called me to ask if Tirthan and I would like to come, but when we got to the address, it was vacant. Tirthan asked me if I wanted to walk out to the beach to watch the sunset while we waited for my mom to answer my calls. When we got past the dunes, he got down on one knee and proposed! Our friend, Nihir, from Nihir Patel Photography was hiding nearby and took the most beautiful engagement photos, and we finished the night with another surprise, celebrating with our close friends and family at The Sandbar.”

The Bach Party & Honeymoon
“My amazing maid of honor and matrons of honor hosted my bachelorette party in Miami. It was a great excuse to get away and enjoy some sun and memories with my best girls.
We spent our honeymoon at the Ritz-Carlton in Grand Cayman. We wanted somewhere relaxing after our week of events, and we loved taking an excursion to hold (and kiss for good luck) stingrays on one of the sandbars.”

The Venue
The Resort at Longboat Key Club
“When looking for a wedding venue, we wanted to be outdoors, near the water, and somewhere that felt like a place all our own.
We specifically chose The Resort at Longboat Key Club because they have a beautiful beachfront property and provided all of the necessary amenities. Gwen Paseka at the resort was a pleasure to work with; she was always available to answer all of our questions.”

The Photo & Video
Evoke Photo + Film
“When picking a wedding photo and video team, beyond the quality of the work, we were looking for a team that had videographers and photographers on the same team and had worked at our venues before.
Stacy, Garry, and Ryan at Evoke Photo + Film were so efficient, creative, and professional. They were so great with our timeline; they made sure we had all of the shots, while giving us time to be with our guests, even with having two ceremonies in one day.
We loved that they covered everything: the guests, the details, the important moments, and the intimate ones. When we received our photographs and wedding films, we were blown away. It was so difficult to pick our favorites; every shot was incredible. It really brought the drama and totally captured the excitement of the weekend.”

The Design
“Our wedding design inspiration varies with the events we had, but kept the same warm mood. We chose a mix of bright, warm colors, slightly different for every event, to create a moody, inviting environment that matched our venues’ vibes.
For the Sangeet the night before, we wanted it to feel like a fun New York City lounge that turns into a dancing club later in the night. We used gold and bronze decor and lots of lighting from our DJ team. We had performances from Tirthan’s side and Henna artists typical of a Sangeet. We decorated the tables with Ganesh statues, candles, rose petals, and Dahndyas that the guests used in the traditional Indian dancing (Garba) portion.
For the morning ceremony, we focused on an island aesthetic while representing the Indian traditions. We provided saffas (hats) for the male guests to wear during Tirthan’s Baraat. We used Indian fabrics, tropical flowers and palm leaves, red and pink umbrellas, and personalized coconuts. We coordinated the wedding party in golds, with Tirthan in a beaded off-white Sherwani, and me in a contrasting bright red lehenga.
For the evening, we wanted it to feel like a classic, intimate dinner party. We really focused on the florals to enhance the architecture of the Powel Crosley. We used long tables with candles, gold cutlery and linens, and lush red and pink florals. We hung lights from the banyan trees and used a black and white checkered dance floor. One of our favorite elements was the patio, we had a floral arch and a ‘The Shahs’ sign that we lit above the balcony after sunset. It was so fun working with my mom for all of the design and styling. I couldn’t have done it without her.”

The Experience

“Our wedding was unique in the way that it was a true reflection of us. It was so special to be married in both an Indian ceremony and a ‘typical’ American ceremony, and to have our guests celebrate with us in both cultures. Our first look at sunrise was the most special moment I will always remember. I was so nervous that morning, and when I saw Tirthan I felt instantly whole.
Tirthan and I love hosting. We wanted the whole weekend to feel like we were hosting a party that you never wanted to leave. We spent a lot of time working on the different song lists with our DJ and curating the food to show the best of Indian street food and Gulf coast favorites like grouper.
Making sure our guests felt comfortable and included was very important to us. For our Indian events, we encouraged all our guests to wear Indian attire and provided a program they could use to follow along and understand the many symbolic steps of the Indian ceremony. We also provided Indian jewelry in the hotel gift bags, along with battery fans (for the Florida heat), sunscreen, Indian snacks, and heel covers for the evening.”

Which vendors really exceeded your expectations?
SoStaged floral design is unmatched. We had so much fun in our meetings, creating the centerpieces and floral arch designs together, and walking around their warehouse to find the perfect rentals.
