Nestled on the crystal blue green waters of Boca Ciega Bay is a slice of paradise offering an island oasis with the luxuries of a private country club at Isla Del Sol Yacht and Country Club.
Wanting to adventure away from the traditional color and design spectrum of navy, nautical and beach themes, St. Petersburg wedding planner Kelly Kennedy of Kelly Kennedy Weddings and Events created an eccentric styled wedding with a modern flare, artfully captured by Tampa Bay wedding photographer Lifelong Photography Studios.
“I spoke with the venue coordinator at Isla Del Sol, Melissa Rowjohn, and she actually requested that the design of the shoot be very different than what she sees on a regular basis,” Kelly explained. “As the venue is located on the water and within a marina, I wanted to stay away from traditional nautical and beach themes. The design I created was on a different spectrum than what has been done at the venue before. I also wanted to step outside of my own personal box and pull together a design that was different than what I have ever done before.”
The luxe color palette of plum, fuchsia, and hints of copper and turquoise were brought together throughout the shoot in custom watercolor agate inspired paper goods designed by Sarah Bubar Designs, complete with a shimmering envelope liner and copper calligraphy.
“I paired these colors because I felt that they would complement each other, as well as give a good contract against the copper,” Kelly shared. “My inspiration started with a plum fruit that I was eating. The deep purple color of the plum was very rich, and I just started playing with the idea from there. I even incorporated plums into the tablescape.”
Beautiful vibrant floral decor designed by Tampa wedding florist Gabro Event Services adorned each table to create a lush tablescape, while the circular arbor provided a unique focal point at the couple’s waterfront ceremony setting. Gabro also designed a lavish white draping backdrop that transformed the reception ballroom to a chic affair enhanced by subtle uplighting and pinspotting.
“I put a lot of thought into the design and what would make this unique. I wanted to incorporate details that would make a photographer excited to shoot the details,” the wedding planner and designer explained. “I wanted to incorporate a print into the design and added that with the napkins and on the high top tables. The print was a little wild, but the colors fit perfect within the design. Using the turquoise runners provided a backdrop to the entire table and really allowed your eye to focus on all of the small details throughout the entire table and at each place setting.”
“Choosing with a bold color palette, Kelly complemented the reception decor with modern ghost chairs and ornate chargers from rental company A Chair Affair. Tying in the bold details all the way through the dessert, St. Petersburg wedding bakery The Artistic Whisk designed an ombre two-tiered round wedding cake complete with an opulent metallic drip design and glittering bon-bons.
Outfitting our models in head to toe in stylish formalwear, Tampa Bay menswear rental company Sacino’s Formalwear provided a grey suit with a fuchsia tie and pocket square that popped with all of the details. While Tampa Bay wedding beauty artist Michele Renee the Studio created a glamorous updo complete with a bold, moody lip and lashes to long for. A non-traditional wedding dress selected by Tampa Bay bridal boutique Truly Forever Bridal complemented the modern theme.
