Christy and Adam’s relationship started as an innocent schoolyard courtship. “Adam and I met when we were 12 years old, as we attended the same middle school. We ‘went out,’ which basically meant we held hands during our lunch period. We were each others’ first kiss,” Christy reminisced.
The pair went their separate ways during high school and lost touch, but reconnected six years ago via Facebook and began where they left off. Although Adam was in Tampa while Christy was attending pharmacy school in Gainsville, they didn’t let the distance keep them apart. “We met each other every week by driving the two-hour drive. After UF graduation, I moved back to Tampa,” Christy said.
“Adam proposed to me by creating a video of himself and my closest friends and playing it in the place of a movie that we were watching at Muvico Theaters. At the end of the video, the lights came on and he proposed to the applause of all of my friends and family behind us in the reserved theater.”
The newlyweds chose Tierra Verde wedding venue Tampa Bay Watch for their outdoor wedding venue. “Tampa Bay Watch allowed us to be wed outside overlooking the Gulf, but without the annoying sand and general beach-look,” the bride said.
While some St. Petersburg brides won’t let the groom veer off course of their vision, Christy embraced Adam’s input. The couples’ Tierra Verde wedding was an integration of both of their personalities; Christy’s favorite color is yellow, while Adam prefers grey. “We decided that the wedding shouldn’t be all about the bride. We would have all the simple fashion aesthetics of a woman-planned ceremony, but allow the personality of ourselves to shine through,” Christy explained.
As their wedding drew near, the pair decided to hire St. Petersburg wedding planner Burkle Events. “As the time grew closer to the event, it became very evident that there would be too much to do during the ceremony. Adam and I wanted our bridesmaids and groomsmen to all have a wonderful time and not have to work. We hired the wedding planner as a last-minute choice and definitely do not regret it. Burkle Events was listed online as being a very recommended choice for events. After speaking with Natalie and Jennifer, it became an obvious decision,” Christy explained.
On the morning of their wedding, Christy surprised Adam with a wedding gift that helped set the mood for the entire day. “Adam, being a fan of comic books and superheroes, jokingly insisted that he would wear a cape for the ceremony. I pretended to disregard it and be angry with him for his idea, leading up all the way to the morning of. As part of my grooms’ gift, I gave him a custom-tailored, yellow cape, which matched the color scheme of our wedding. He happily wore it throughout the ceremony,” Christy shared.
My wedding gown came with a white tie that held my entire dress together from the back. On the morning of the event, my bridesmaids were completely unable to locate this extremely essential sash, which caused panicking. Everyone was hectically running around the center, searching. As a last-minute workaround, we took my yellow bathrobe’s tie/sash and weaved it into my gown as a replacement. The end result was probably the most complemented aspect of my gown and none of the guests knew the truth. We still haven’t found the original tie… – The Bride
