Lianne and Matthew attended the same middle and high schools, but didn’t start dating until he left for college.
“I was moving into the house he was moving out of. His bedroom became my bedroom. I remember when I went with my Mom to look at the house, I saw Matt’s school picture and thought, ‘Oh yeah, he goes to my school and he’s really cute,'” Lianne shared. “One day shortly after moving into the house he and his family moved out of, I decided instant message Matt and said something like, ‘Hey, I’m the girl who moved into your house.’ From there, we started talking a lot, decided to hang out and then became inseparable!”
Fast forward seven years later to a wedding proposal at the St. Petersburg Renaissance Vinoy. Matthew told Lianne he won a free night stay through a work contest to throw her off his trail.
“It wasn’t unusual for his work to have contests with prizes. Matt pretended to be on the phone with his boss the day he proposed, supposedly to coordinate when to meet his boss and his wife for dinner,” Lianne explained. “After we checked in, we went to our room to get dressed for dinner. I had my hair half up in a clip to flat iron my hair with no makeup on and in a t-shirt. That’s when Matt told me to close my eyes and when I opened them he was on one knee with the ring. It was a complete shock!”
While Lianne didn’t choose a particular theme for her Sarasota wedding, she selected colors that gave a nod to her mother’s wedding day.
“I chose champagne with a hint of peach,” Lianne said. “My Mom’s color was peach at her wedding.”
“It was the first and only wedding venue we looked at; we knew there would be no competition,” Lianne stated. “What drew Matthew and I to the Powel was the extravagant layout and the 1920’s Mediterranean-feel architecture. We also loved the fact that it as it was all ours the day of the wedding. We didn’t have uninvited people walking around or other weddings taking place around us.”
Lianne wanted to focus on “having fun” on her wedding day, so she hired Sarasota wedding planner Exquisite Events.
“I received quotes from several other wedding coordinators, including Exquisite Events, and the main reason I chose them was because the quote/price was simple to understand. I knew what I was getting rather being confused with add-ons and extras,” Lianne explained. “Ashley was my “day of” coordinator for the wedding and did a wonderful job!”
Looking back the bride said her most memorable moments were dancing with her grandfather and husband, as well as pictures she took with her mother.
