Katherine and Chris met in ninth grade Spanish class at Buchanan Junior High.
“I remember this cocky guy walking through the door and taking a seat next to me. Next thing I knew, we were best friends,” Katherine shared.
Their friendship soon formed into a long distance one as the students went on to separate high schools and then rival universities. (She’s a Seminole, he’s a Gator.)
“We even stayed close when I moved to DC and he went to NYC, taking the China Town bus for $35 round trip to visit each other,” Katherine explained. “We both ended up coming back home to Tampa and our friendship grew even stronger.”
The pair’s strong bond eventually led to a relationship, and two years later Katherine and Chris found themselves back in that same ninth grade Spanish class, where Chris proposed.
“Chris had come up with a very elaborate plan to get me back to the junior high school, and even though the room was a little different than it was all those years ago, he set up our two chairs in the same exact spot as they were when we first met,” Katherine reminisced.
Katherine and Chris’ penchant for Broadway plays led them to choose a unique downtown Tampa wedding venue that reflected their interest in the arts.
“When we visited the Straz Center for the Performing Arts we were blown away at the professionalism of the staff and their willingness to do anything they could to make our day special,” the bride shared. “We loved the reception space, location and food selections but we especially loved the outdoor cocktail area that gave our guests the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful Florida weather.”
“Our color choice was simply based on a painting in the Straz Center Maestro’s restaurant that showed a ballerina twirling with an ivory skirt and copper shoes,” Katherine explained. “The colors were beautifully blended together and went perfectly with the décor of the room.”
To shoot the grandeur of their wedding venue, the couple hired Tampa wedding photographer Ware House Studios.
“We had the most amazing engagement and wedding pictures,” Katherine gushed. “Ware House Studios was somehow able to capture not only the special moments of our wedding, but also the feeling behind them as well. I simply can’t say enough about our photographers.”
Looking back, Katherine and Chris said their most memorable moment was hearing themselves announced as “Mr.” and “Mrs.” for the first time.
“I will never forget that moment or that feeling,” Katherine reminisced.
“One of the great things the Straz Center offered was an opportunity for us to take wedding pictures on the main stage. We really wanted our wedding pictures to be unique, fun and capture who we really are and having the opportunity to take our pictures on the stage was a great bonus. If we had to do it all over again, we would have our wedding there again in a heartbeat! ” – The Bride
