Kimberly and Allen’s Love Story:
My husband and I met at Merrymaker’s on Davis Island in November of 2011. He was there with a friend, as he was in town for the weekend (he lived in Orlando), and I was there since I am a former sponsor. His friend suggested we talk since both of our fathers played college football. We talked for a while, and then he left without asking me for my number. On my ride home that night, I expressed my frustration with my friends on how he was a guy that I would like to get to know more, but didn’t know how we would ever reconnect.
Needless to say, we did manage to connect (thanks to social media), and the rest is history.
Our first date was at the Florida State/Florida game in Gainesville two weeks later. Allen says that thankfully FSU won (my team), or else we probably wouldn’t have lasted!
In August of 2013, Allen and I went to North Carolina to visit his friends and my grandparents. We were to spend the entire weekend there, but he told me that he had made plans for us to go away on the Saturday night.
On Saturday, August 17th we left Sapphire and went to Asheville, where we checked into a bed and breakfast. We went to the Biltmore Estate for dinner, and Allen had planned to propose in the sunflower fields as I love sunflowers, however, they had all been cut! And…it was raining! So he waited until after dinner when we got back to our room to drop down on one knee and ask me to marry him!
Even though I had a hunch that it was going to happen that day, I was still shocked. We decided not to call anyone until the next day so that we could enjoy that evening alone as a newly engaged couple.
Tampa is Kimberly’s hometown, so it was only fitting that she chose the bay area for her sophisticated, southern style wedding.
“I wanted a timeless theme that was simple and elegant,” the bride shared. “Our colors were muted gold and mallard green, very natural and elegant.”
Since the bride had lived in Tampa most of her life and attended many events at local yacht and country clubs, she searched for a one-of-a-kind Tampa wedding venue.
“I wanted something unique and different! The Oxford Exchange definitely was both,” Kimberly gushed.
Because she was unsure how to make her wedding come to life, she enlisted the help of Tampa wedding florist Andrea Layne Floral Design.
“I wanted a florist who could really understand my vision. My problem was that I didn’t even know my vision, so I needed someone who could get to know me, listen to my ideas and be able to translate that into the floral design,” the bride explained. “Andrea of [Andrea Layne Floral Design] exceeded my expectations with her her design, honesty and awareness of my budget She was able to create my vision!”
To honor her grandfather, who had passed a few years before, the bride and groom incorporated his vintage car into their wedding exit.
“It was important to me to have it as a part of my special day,” the bride shared.
Looking back, Kimberly said that her most memorable moments included, “standing at the alter holding my soon to be husband’s hand and dancing with my dad.”
“We left in my grandfather’s vintage Model A car. He passed away in 2007, and it was important to me to have it as a part of my special day.” – The Bride
