Downtown Tampa Wedding | The Tampa Club Wedding

Megan and Matthew's elegant downtown Tampa wedding featured an indoor ballroom ceremony and reception overlooking the city where their relationship began.

“Matthew and I both wanted many of the traditional aspects of a wedding, but we also loved the contemporary aspects that Tampa added to our wedding,” the bride explained. “We really wanted to celebrate the city that brought us together.”

The Safety Harbor couple searched for an intimate and private Tampa wedding venue that was unique and offered amazing skyline views and character that guests wouldn't necessarily see everyday.

“We fell in love with The Tampa Club! The views really sold us. Having our wedding at the highest point in Tampa was really special. We got to see every place that was a part of what made that day happen,” Megan gushed. “I loved that it didn't need to be overly decorated and that it had charm all on its own. Brittany at The Tampa Club made life so easy. She was honest, thoughtful, and always helpful through the wedding planning process. We always felt like family at The Tampa Club!”

Wanting a wedding cake that fit their traditional theme, the couple chose Tampa wedding bakery Hands on Sweets to create a custom cake for their reception.

“We wanted something simple and delicious! I love that added the pattern of lace from my dress to our cake!” the bride beamed. “Chef Marie from Hands on Sweets is a joy to work with. I can't even begin to explain how good the cake was! We tried the pink champagne cake at our tasting, and it wound up being one of our flavors.”

To bring their party to life, the couple hired Tampa Bay wedding DJ Graingertainment.

“Chris was a fantastic DJ, professional and honest!” Megan shared. “We let him have a lot of freedom with most of the song selection, and he came through with great dinner music, as well as a party playlist. Everyone was happy with him, from the dancing crowd to the couples who just wanted to have a conversation. He brought the party as promised! It was the best day ever!”

What did you look for in a wedding venue?
We wanted something unique; somewhere people weren't going everyday. We wanted it to be private and intimate. A space that had it's own character and great views.

The Proposal:
Matthew snuck into my school with the help of some friends one Friday afternoon. I was told I had to take a picture with some other girls I had graduated with from USF. After I dismissed my students, I walked down to my friend's classroom and waited for everyone to get together for this picture. A good group of people from our school were there.

We were all just hanging out, playing music, and enjoying the fact that it was Friday, when a song Matthew liked to sing to me started playing. Little did I know every eye in the room was on me because Matthew came out of hiding in a storage closet, tapped me on the shoulder and asked me to marry him. It wasn't until after the proposal I noticed that my friend had decorated her classroom for an engagement party that Matt had helped set up. He knew I would have never expected it to be at school, and it was so special because we are both teachers.

How would you describe your theme? 
Modern, traditional. We are both very simple, classic people and we kept everything in line with that. Matthew and I both wanted many of the traditional aspects of a wedding, but we also loved the contemporary aspects that Tampa and The Tampa Club added to our wedding. Tampa itself was a big theme to a lot of our wedding activities. We really wanted to celebrate the city that brought us together

What were your colors?
Burgundy and gold, but I really focused around white, black and sage green as well. We wanted colors that we would always love and would fit the venue. I didn't want bridesmaids dresses clashing with things in pictures. We also played off of the gold wall at The Tampa Club which is absolutely stunning!

What did you look for in a wedding DJ?
We wanted someone who was going to bring the party.

What advice would you give to other Tampa Bay couples?
Make sure your day is for you and your husband. Be sure of your choices and go with your gut. Enjoy your day! Before you walk down the aisle, take a breath and be in that moment. It really is the best day ever.
