As a tribute to the colorful and funky vibes of the historic ‘cigar district,’ this Ybor City wedding inspiration shoot featured warm shades of rosy pinks, deep reds, and sunny marigold, paired with retro-inspired furnishings and bespoke details to transport guests into another era.
“The theme for this shoot is a mid-century retro inspiration. I absolutely love mid-century colors, design, and style trends, and wanted to design something that provided a step back in time with a modern vibe,” Heather Tyler, Lead Planner at Blue Skies Weddings and Events, shared. “A mid-century color palette offers an array of cheerful colors, providing an endless variety of gorgeous blooms to choose from. We embraced luscious yellows, blush pinks, an array of blue hues, pops of red and burgundy, subtle greenery, and organic wood elements as our key palette to create this colorful landscape.”
The exposed brick walls and charming architectural details of Hotel Haya, Ybor City’s newest historic venue, created an ideal backdrop. The nearby cobblestone streets and trolley also made for playful and unique photo ops that embraced the energy of the area, artfully captured by the creative team at Lifelong Photography Studios.
“Hotel Haya was the perfect venue to bring this inspiration full circle,” the planner detailed. “The boutique hotel has such a luxurious style with gorgeous and colorful embellishments. The venue’s design features created the most perfect backdrop for this shoot.”
The bride’s cold-shoulder gown with delicately embroidered organza sleeves, courtesy of Truly Forever Bridal, gave a nod to the free-spirited fashion of the 1960s. Rosy cheeks, loose curls, and a floral rhinestone crown completed the look, thanks to the hair and makeup artists at Adore Bridal.
Blue Skies Weddings & Events‘ immersive approach to event design aimed to marry the vintage styling of a bygone era with the modern trends of today. The result was a combination of style elements filled with surprise and delight that would appeal to any couple.
“I loved all the artful splashes of colors, patterns, and textures! Embracing the style of the fabulous 50s and 60s while adding a modern flair created such an unexpected and dreamy fun look,” Heather beamed.
Vintage-inspired furnishings from the extensive inventory at Kate Ryan Event Rentals set the stage for the celebration. The solid wood carved Callahan bar boasted a prism-style facade, while the midnight blue velvet Caiden sofa added softness to the space. Cane-back Louis chairs created a retro-modern vibe at the dining tables, which were adorned with patterned linens and colorful blooms.
“Chairs can be chosen to complement the overall theme and decor of the wedding. They elevate the look of the ceremony and reception. Chairs may seem like a small detail, but they can significantly contribute to the overall atmosphere and experience of a wedding ceremony, making it more memorable for the couple and their guests alike,” Ellie Hidalgo, of Kate Ryan Event Rentals explained. “Our Caiden sofa showcased how furniture can elevate cocktail hour. It also makes a great photo prop for the couple. The Callahan bar with our Boca etagere bar back was used to provide a cohesive and natural look. It matches perfectly with the natural lighting that Hotel Haya provides. Beyond their aesthetic appeal, natural wood bars are functional and practical.”
This styled shoot proves that it’s possible to combine both vintage and modern design elements and that couples should embrace color and incorporate a plethora of hues into their wedding style.
