Kim and Darnell’s Clearwater country club wedding was a perfect representation of the couple’s interfaith marriage and binding of their families. The bride and groom chose a color palette of dark purple with champagne accents that gave a perfect flare to their winter wedding.
“I’m a white Jewish girl, and Darnell is a black Christian man. We come from such different, yet very similar backgrounds, and we united together with our family and friends,” the bride shared. “We had my cousin marry us. Kevin is a poet/performer and founder of Chicago’s Louder Than a Bomb poetry slam, so he made our ceremony so lively and entertaining and definitely not your typical boring wedding ceremony.”
To create a simply classic, yet fierce look, Kim hired Tampa Bay wedding hair and makeup team LDM Beauty Group.
“I looked for someone who I could get along with and laugh with because I’m spending a lot of hours on the most important day of the my life with them; I wanted them to have fun too! I also wanted someone who was a good listener and could bring what I imagined to life!” the bride explained. “Lindsay, the owner of LDM Beauty Group was awesome! During my trial we got a long great, laughed a lot, she was easy to talk to and listened to what I wanted my make up to look like. She made it really comfortable to give my opinion and make changes where I wanted. Their service was great! She’s very professional and was early for all of our appointments and stayed through the ceremony to touch up my makeup!”

With a specific theme in mind to tie together both of the bride and groom’s last names, they hired Tampa Bay wedding bakery The Artistic Whisk to create a custom designed cake.
“Darnell actually was the idea behind our wedding cake! We knew that we wanted wolves with crowns as a topper because of our last names, Wolf and King, and thought it was so cute to do! He thought of a ‘starry night’ type of idea, so that’s why we did the wolves howling up with the gold splatter of stars on the cake on top of a mountain with the geode rock,” Kim shared. “When we met with Jovana of the Artistic Whisk, she actually had a picture of foxes that she had done, and we loved her work so it was a easy decision to go with her! We looked for great taste within the cakes, and The Artistic Whisk had so many delicious flavors! We loved how she only used fresh ingredients and nothing processed. She made us feel like royalty during our tasting, and her presentation was so cute!”

Looking back on their wedding day, it was hard for the couple to pick just one moment, but it was clear that Kim and Darnell loved reliving the memories from their big day.
“The ceremony was awesome, so tastefully done and comical and so us! Our first dance was memorable, but every dance after that was too because everyone was on the dance floor! Our DJ also incorporated this great touch called “the kiss goodnight,” where he, at the end of the wedding, had everyone leave the room to go get ready for our sparkler exit, and we stayed for one more slow dance as husband and wife, just the two of us, it was so romantic!”
The Proposal:
Darnell proposed in Chicago at the top of the Sears Tower in the glass box. It was his first time in the city, and in the glass box, but I am originally from there and been to the top a couple times. So when it was our turn I wasn’t scared at all to go in the box and went to lay down to get a cool picture, and Darnell kept trying to get me to stand up. I kept saying, “No sit down,” and he finally just said, “Why don’t you stand up so I can get down on a knee?!” I was so confused that when I went to stand up, and he went to get down on one knee he looked straight down 108 stories and started sweating bullets and getting nervous! It was honestly the cutest thing ever!
What was your wedding hair and makeup inspiration?
My hair and makeup inspiration was to keep it simply classic, yet fierce (I love a good smoky eye!). I looked for someone who I could get along with and laugh with because I’m spending a lot of hours on the most important day of the my life with them; I wanted them to have fun too! I also wanted someone who was a good listener and could bring what I imagined to life!

How would you describe your theme?
We didn’t have a true “theme” for the wedding, it was more candles and market lighting to give a starry, romance feel. We wanted something classic and beautiful and not dated when we look back at our photos in 20 years!
What were your colors?
Dark purple, (between a plum/eggplant shade) and champagne color accents. Since it was a December wedding, we wanted a deep color but one that wasn’t a holiday color, and the champagne fit so nicely with the dark purple.

When we met with Jovana of The Artistic Whisk, she actually had a picture of foxes that she had done, and we loved her work so it was a easy decision to go with her! We looked for great taste within the cakes when we were searching for the bakery and The Artistic Whisk had so many delicious flavors! We ended up picking the strawberry champagne and chocolate chip cannoli as our flavors. We loved how she only used fresh ingredients and nothing processed. She made us feel like royalty during our tasting, and her presentation was so cute! It was a really nice touch how she set everything up for our tasting. Their service was great! They came and set up our whole cake table and made it look gorgeous.
What advice would you give to other Tampa Bay couples?
