Modern, Romantic Burgundy South Tampa Wedding | Hyde House

Tampa Bay Best Local Wedding Venue 2021

Emily and Ashe's chic South Tampa wedding featured a romantic color palette in shades of red and peach with a clean and modern edge. Their contemporary space was transformed with an abundance of greenery and flora in shades of coral and burgundy to soften the space.

“Our colors were gold and white with accents of burgundy and peach. We chose these colors because they lend themselves nicely to a clean, elegant design theme, but also are on the warmer side,” the bride explained. “We wanted our pictures to be bright and airy, so we picked peach and champagne for the bridesmaids and accented our tables, flowers, and other décor with burgundy, which is autumnal.”

The Tampa couple chose one of South Tampa's newest wedding venues, Hyde House, for its clean and modern aesthetic and central location which was convenient for their intimate 50-person wedding.

“With some help from our wedding planner, we picked a theme of ‘modern, romantic elegance' for our wedding. We both like clean and contemporary aesthetics, but I really had some romantic and elegant preferences in mind for the décor that didn’t fit with a fully modern theme, like airy textures, lots of flowers, and warmer accent colors,” Emily revealed.

To achieve their modern romantic vibe, the couple turned to A Chair Affair to provide decor elements that would bring a soft and elegant touch to the contemporary space.

“We rented our tables and chairs as well as our tablecloths from A Chair Affair. They offer a great variety of options and were very helpful in coordinating our rentals to match our aesthetic. Being able to customize our ceremony and reception space really helped us build the ambiance we wanted for both events,” Emily commended. “We used garden chairs for the ceremony since it was outside on the terrace, and we hosted an elegant reception with gold Chiavari chairs and white tablecloths that matched our décor and accents.”

The bride and groom sought a seasoned wedding photography team that specialized in the light and airy style that Emily favored. They felt an instant connection upon meeting Buffy and Cheryl from Lifelong Photography Studio.

“We weren’t sure where to start when looking for a wedding photographer, but we knew that we wanted someone who specialized in weddings and events, and I preferred a bright, light style of shooting. We wanted a reputable company, just in case there were any emergencies and backups were needed,” the bride shared. “Buffy and Cheryl were total superheroes. Buffy went above and beyond to help with things that weren’t even in her job description, like helping my mom zip the dress and starting the bustle when the bridal party got separated before the introductions. Cheryl was amazing with our flower girl! She made her feel special and kept her distracted when she was on the verge of having a four-year-old meltdown.”

Emily and Ashe incorporated personal touches throughout their celebration, having a friend officiate their wedding and partaking in a braiding ceremony.

“Aside from having our wedding in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic, our wedding was unique because we worked in elements that spoke to who we are as individuals and as a couple. We had a smaller wedding in a big venue, which actually allowed us to better preserve social distancing and make it feel like less of a COVID-19 wedding,” the bride shared. “Our officiant, who was a personal friend of Ashe's, flew in from Hawaii. Pastor Joshua helped us plan a unique unity ceremony, which consisted of braiding three cords (to symbolize the intertwining of our marriage with our God) and us taking communion together for the first time as a married couple.”

The entire celebration was filled with treasured memories surrounded by the couple's closest friends and family. Emily recalls a few special moments that stood out from the day.

“We had many memorable moments from our wedding day, so it’s hard to pick just a few. We chose to do a bubble exit from our ceremony and walking through a sea of bubbles being blown by our friends and family was pretty magical,” the bride recalled. “Our dances with each other and with our parents, as well as the toasts, were also very memorable and unique. Our live band made for a wonderful evening of dancing, which was probably most memorable for our guests.”

The Proposal:
Ashe proposed on February 12. We had already gone ring shopping, and I helped pick out the ring and diamond. After Ashe went back to get the ring, he had his best man help him plan the proposal. He took me to an early Valentine’s dinner at Olivia in South Tampa, and then drove me, blindfolded, to the University of Tampa riverfront area where we had our first anniversary date. His friends had set up balloons that spelled out “Marry Me?” as well as Valentine’s decorations and LED candles for ambiance.

What did you look for in a wedding venue?
The biggest consideration for choosing a wedding venue for us was the location—we wanted something in the city of Tampa so it was convenient for us and all of our guests to attend. The second most important factor was aesthetics; we wanted something that would be clean, modern, and would fit our personalities. Ashe really likes modern/industrial designs, and Hyde House even had some industrial components that he liked. When viewing venues, I wanted to make sure that the wedding events would flow nicely and that I could envision each piece from getting ready to the grand exit before booking. Of course, we also considered our budget and did make some adjustments to make our venue choice work.

Where did you spend your honeymoon?
We originally wanted to plan our honeymoon in Europe, but because COVID-19 changed the travel situation, we decided to stay close to home and go to Walt Disney World in Orlando. We had never done any theme parks together prior to our wedding, and Disney was on our list of places to go together, so it was a natural second choice.

What did you look for in a wedding photographer?
We weren’t sure where to start when looking for a wedding photographer, but we knew that we wanted someone who specialized in weddings and events, and I preferred a bright, light style of shooting. We wanted a reputable company, just in case there were any emergencies and backups were needed.

Lifelong Photography Studio came as a recommendation from one of my bridesmaids. We met with Buffy for a consultation, and she was willing to build a package that fit our needs and our budget, and we loved her work! She did some amazing engagement photos for us, and she and Cheryl were just as wonderful on our wedding day. Buffy and Cheryl were total superheroes. Buffy went above and beyond to help with things that weren’t even in her job description, like helping my mom zip the dress and starting the bustle when the bridal party got separated before the introductions. How would you describe your theme/wedding design inspiration?
With some help from our wedding planner, we picked a theme of “modern, romantic elegance” for our wedding. We both like clean and contemporary aesthetics, but I really had some romantic and elegant preferences in mind for the décor that didn’t fit with a fully modern theme, like airy textures, lots of flowers, and warmer accent colors.

What were your colors?
Our colors were gold and white with accents of burgundy and peach. We chose these colors because they lend themselves nicely to a clean, elegant design theme, but also are on the warmer side. We wanted our pictures to be bright and airy, so we picked peach and champagne for the bridesmaids and accented our tables, flowers, and other décor with burgundy, which is autumnal.

What was your rental inspiration?
We rented our tables and chairs as well as our table cloths from A Chair Affair.

They offer a great variety of options, and they were very helpful in coordinating our rentals to match our aesthetic. Being able to customize our ceremony and reception space really helped us build the ambiance we wanted for both events. What advice would you give to other Tampa Bay couples?
Be realistic about your budget and develop a savings plan early on, determine your non-negotiable items from the beginning, and be very specific about things you want. Pictures and written details are very helpful in communicating your vision to vendors. Don’t be afraid to ask vendors for samples or mock-ups of their understanding of your vision. Finally, have fun at your wedding! Make sure you get a chance to eat. If you want to dance, make time to dance! The day goes by quickly, and the reception goes by even faster. Talk to your planner about what things you really want to make time for, and be creative about working them in, if needed.
