Jennifer and Connor’s Lakeland wedding was the epitome of modern romance and elegance. Bringing the outdoors into their wedding, the North Carolina bride and groom chose a color palette with shades of blue and an abundance of greenery and white flowers.
“Throughout the planning process, we described our wedding inspiration as relaxed romantic. We wanted our wedding to be laid-back and comfortable, with a very natural, romantic feeling,” the bride shared. “Above all else though, we just wanted the day to be so much fun for our guests, and it was important that the setting reflected that casual vibe we loved so much!”
Jennifer enjoyed the wedding planning process and turned to Marry Me Tampa Bay for advice and inspiration.
“There are so many great resources out there, like Marry Me Tampa Bay, and it was really fun, as a bride, to feel part of the wedding planning community and get to help each other out with all the insight and guidance,” the bride beamed.
With Florida’s unpredictable weather, the couple searched for a Lakeland wedding venue that could give an outdoor feel, but with the comfort of air conditioning.
“When it came to cities to get married in, it was never a question as to where we’d be,” Jennifer explained. “We wanted a space that we could really make our own. We felt like it was fate that our venue, Haus 820 was completed the year before our wedding, and as my mom put it best, ‘I couldn’t have imagined us in any other space!’ The restored building was such a perfect blank canvas that allowed us to create our unique vision with a very cool, relaxed vibe.”
Searching for the perfect wedding day rentals to complete the look of their unique reception space, the couple added warmth with dark stained wooden chairs from A Chair Affair and navy linens from Over the Top Rental Linens
“I loved how we were able to tie together certain items like delicate gold flatware with wooden chargers and different table fabrics to make a very romantic yet unique look,” the bride gushed.
Looking back on their wedding day, one of the couple’s most memorable moments was a surprise “performance” by one of their favorite singers.
“One of the biggest highlights was actually something we did not even plan for! Connor and I both love country music and have enjoyed going to countless country concerts together over the years. With some help from my cousin, my dad worked with one of our favorite artists, Thomas Rhett, and had him create a personal video for us. In the middle of my dad’s toast, he had a video up on the wall of Thomas Rhett in the studio sending his personal congratulations and singing an acoustic version of my favorite song, Die a Happy Man. My dad ended the toast by saying that now that all three of his daughters were happily married to amazing men, he knew that he too could die a happy man.”
What did you look for in a wedding venue?
Since we both love being outdoors so much, we originally really wanted to get married outside. However, between the heat and threat of rain, a June wedding outdoors in Florida just was not possible, so we had to get a little creative. We wanted a space that we could really make our own, and somewhere that would allow us to still give that outdoor feel (with the benefits of air conditioning!).

How would you describe your theme/wedding design inspiration?
Throughout the planning process we described our wedding inspiration as “relaxed romantic.” We wanted our wedding to be laid-back and comfortable, with a very natural, romantic feeling. Above all else though, we just wanted the day to be so much fun for our guests, and it was important that the setting reflected that casual vibe we loved so much!
What were your colors?
We both love navy and blues, and we wanted to bring a very outdoor vibe to our wedding, so we went with shades of blues with lots of greenery and white flowers. The guys were in navy suits, and the girls were in dusty blue dresses in various cuts and styles.
Connor wanted a plan that combined all things I loved most: outdoors and nostalgia. He also knew he wanted to do the proposal in Durham, NC because it was where we began our lives together, and it held a lot of significance. Despite me almost (unknowingly) messing up the plans a few times that day, Connor convinced me he was busy with other plans before I became too suspicious. With the help of one of my best friends, Connor got me to Duke Botanical Gardens where he was waiting. When I turned the corner, I saw countless photos from our time together strung along a path leading to Connor waiting with flowers. The day was perfect, and we had so much fun celebrating at a local brewery with dinner that night!
What did you look for in a wedding rental company?
Of course staying within budget while providing great services was most important for all the vendors and rental companies we worked with. I loved how we were able to tie together certain items like delicate gold flatware with wooden chargers and different table fabrics to make a very romantic yet unique look.

What advice would you give other Tampa Bay couples?
We’d tell any couple that adjusting a budget to include a wedding planner that they love and can trust is worth every penny and will be money well spent! Beyond creating the wedding day of our dreams, our planners made the planning process so stress-free and all around fun!
I think it’s so easy to get caught up in the little decisions or tiny details (which are important), but at the end of the day, it’s all about being surrounded by the people you love! Just focus on the big picture, and let your planner, MOH, or trusted family or friends help with all the other details! The process flies by, and it’s one you’ll want to enjoy!
