Callie and Sam’s Ybor City wedding featured an intimate evening centered around simple elegance with a sparkler exit in a Ferrari getaway car. The wedding included a historic industrial cigar factory with exposed brick, lush greenery, and delicate white and blush florals.
“The venue itself made the theme of the wedding. It’s old Tampa, brick, and a beautiful scene, so we kept it simple and let the venue do most of the talking,” the bride explained. “Our colors were blush pink and navy blue.”
The venue came to life with vintage-inspired decor which showcased a stunning ivy draped staircase for the grand entrance. To provide their 55 guests with a COVID safe wedding experience, the couple customized hand sanitizer bottles which were styled next to the chic centerpieces filled with pale pink peonies, ivory roses, and white hydrangeas.
The Tampa couple paid homage to the groom’s family lineage of cigar rollers by selecting the recently renovated J.C. Newman Cigar Co. as their event venue. Over a century old, the historic building offered an industrial aesthetic with an intimate setting.
“We were looking for something that was a little different than most weddings; we wanted a space that would not be too big for the number of guests we were having, and we wanted it all at one spot. I walked in and knew instantly this is where I want the wedding to be,” the bride gushed. “We chose J.C. Newman Cigar Co. not only for the uniqueness and how amazing the venue space is but also because it reminds us of old Tampa. Their service was amazing! I can go on and on how great it was to have the wedding there and how helpful they all were.”
While the entire evening felt like the time of their lives, the bride fondly remembered the look on her groom’s face when they locked eyes at the end of the aisle, along with the moment he swept her off her feet during their last dance of the night.
“The first time I saw my husband’s reaction as I was walking down the aisle, it was the sweetest thing I have ever seen! I will never forget the look on his face,” Callie beamed. “My father and daughter dance was another memorable moment, as I believe it caught a lot of attention. We started off with a slow song, I Loved Her First, and then a few minutes into the song we had them switch it over to Dancing Queen by Abba because that is from my favorite movie, and every time my dad hears that song he thinks of me,” the bride reminisced. “Also, the last song of the night, Time of Your Life, my husband actually did our version of the lift with me, not only once but three times! I will remember that because when we first got engaged, I had asked and teased him that we should do dancing lessons and that be the song that we danced to, but we didn’t and chose a different song, so I was surprised that he actual lifted me up like that.”
“Another memorable moment was the excitement my husband had when the getaway car pulled up. I had surprised him with a four-seater Ferrari since he loves Ferraris. The fact the drivers of that car were two boys who are now 21-years-old and 17-years-old, but I raised them, so it was amazing and so neat that they were able to be a part of the wedding and be able to drive us to the hotel.”
What did you look for in a wedding venue?
We were looking for something that was a little different than most weddings. We wanted a space that would not be too big for the number of guests we were having, and we wanted it all at one spot.
There were many many reasons why we chose J.C. Newman Cigar Co. We chose the venue. not only for the uniqueness and how amazing the venue space is but also because it reminds us of old Tampa. My husband’s mother’s family used to be in the cigar business. I walked in and knew instantly this is where I want the wedding to be. Their service was amazing; the whole staff was fun to work with. I can go on and on how great it was to have the wedding there and how helpful they all were.
It was on Christmas day, we were at Sam’s parents’ house with all of his family opening presents. He had me open one of my gifts, I pulled up a ring ornament, and then Sam got down on one knee. As he did that my parents, brother, and sister-in-law, and nephews all came running around the corner. He had his dad text them as they were sitting down the road to be a part of it. It was truly special to have our families be apart because we both are very family-oriented.
Where did you spend your honeymoon?
We went to North Carolina for two weeks. One week was spent at Sam’s parents’ house on Lake Toxaway, and the second week was spent at my parents’ house in Sapphire Valley. We decided for the time being just to do a simple honeymoon. We both love the mountains and that is where we started our relationship.
How would you describe your theme/wedding design inspiration?
The venue itself made the theme of the wedding. It’s old Tampa, brick, and a beautiful scene, so we kept it simple and let the venue do most of the talking.
What were your colors?
Blush pink and navy blue.
What advice would you give to other Tampa Bay couples?
Even though planning a wedding can be extremely stressful, make sure to also sit back and enjoy it all at the same time because it sure does go by fast. It is Florida, so if there is a little bit of rain don’t let it ruin anything; it is good luck!
Lastly and most importantly, there is a good chance that some things will go wrong or not the way it was exactly planned on the actual wedding day, and it’s hard to not get caught up in that and get stressed out because you have worked so hard to plan this perfect wedding, but things happen. It is important to sit back and know that it will still be the most perfect wedding. Remember you are marrying your best friend, and at the end of the day, that’s what it is all about. So don’t let those little bumps in the road on that day get in the way of anything, and those little bumps may only be known by you and whoever planned it, so most likely your guests won’t even know what happened. Sit back and enjoy the magical day and night.
