Susan and Alejandro’s destination Sarasota wedding was filled lush flowers, extra tall centerpieces and elegant draping to create a soft, romantic atmosphere.
“Our colors were blush with ivories and touches of gold. We wanted a classic, timeless look, so that guided most of our choices,” the bride explained. “Additionally, I thought that blush would flatter a variety of skin tones, and it’s a classic palette that hopefully will not look dated.”
The New Jersey couple chose the Sarasota area for their destination wedding, as Susan was born and raised in Bradenton, where her parents still live.
“Getting to have all of our family and friends from various parts of our lives joined together in one place was a very special experience,” the bride shared.
Guest experience topped the priority list for Susan and Alejandro, who focused their efforts on the venue, menu and entertainment.
“One unique part of our wedding was our first dance. We wanted to incorporate a Latin dance in honor of my husband, so we began taking dance lessons together in the months leading up to the wedding. We ended up combining two songs, starting with a slow rumba and then moving into a faster salsa for our first dance,” the bride revealed. “We didn’t tell many of our guests about it, so it was fun to hear their reaction when the songs changed.”
Looking back, one of Susan’s most memorable moments came just seconds before her Sarasota wedding ceremony.
“Waiting to walk down the aisle, and then walking with my dad to meet Alejandro, is one of those moments that you sort of envision your whole life,” the bride reminisced.
Alejandro and I usually go out for a date every Friday night. When I got in the car, he said that he had left his wallet at home, so we needed to stop there. I walked in the door a little after him, and he was there with the ring, champagne and flowers. Of course I said “Yes,” and then we quickly packed a bag to go away for the weekend, since he had made reservations to stay at our favorite nearby inn.
How would you describe your theme?
I’m not sure that we had a precise theme for the wedding, but we knew that we wanted a classic, timeless look, so that guided most of our choices.
What were your colors?
Our colors were blush with ivories and touches of gold. I chose them because I wanted our wedding to have a soft, romantic feel. Additionally, I thought that blush would flatter a variety of skin tones, and it’s a classic palette that hopefully will not look dated.
What advice would you give to other Tampa Bay/Sarasota brides?
Although everyone says it, try to slow down on the actual day and savor the moment because it really does go so fast.
Also, if you can, consider hiring a wedding planner. Our wedding planner was amazing and such an incredible help throughout the whole process. I cannot imagine having done it without her, and it is a real blessing to get to spend time with your friends and family in the days leading up to the wedding without having to worry about every detail.
I would also recommend hiring a videographer. Alejandro and I were very on the fence about it, and we only decided to do it at the last minute when my parents strongly recommended it. Now we love having the video, and it is one of our favorite ways to remember the wedding.
