Providing unique inspiration for couples seeking to buck tradition and opt for an edgy wedding vibe, this styled shoot channeled the musical heritage of a local Dunedin wedding venue into a rock and roll motif perfect for creative brides and grooms. With saturated jewel tones and moody black accents, this inspirational shoot combined soft colorful flora with bold furnishings for a fresh and balanced look.
“[The overall style was] rock N’ roll romance. I wanted to do a styled shoot for the modern romantic bride, who also wants something a little edgy and fun,” planner Kandace McElroy of Kandace McElroy Events shared. “We chose a black and white and jewel-tone color palette. I love classic black and white, and I love bold, rich colors. Most of their weddings at the venue tend to be Old Florida style, with lots of blush/pink and accents of citrus, which we love, but they wanted something that would stand out. I kept an elegant feel with black and white staple items, bold florals, and accent pieces that give it that playful pop of color.”
Known for photographing meaningful interactions and telling the story of the day, Amanda Zabrocki Photography brilliantly captured the couple’s playful personalities as well as the carefully curated details.
To achieve the perfect marriage between edgy and romantic, the floral design featured deep oxblood roses and eggplant lisianthus combined with black-eyed anemones and spikey heads of blue thistle. Even the graphic design of the cake was accessorized with clusters of fresh flora atop the shimmering sequin table linen.
“Our inspiration was to be very edgy, colorful, and include lots of black! It was important that the design was very lush, vibrant, and unique. We wanted to show a different style other than the typical white, green, and blush. I loved that we were able to create something that suits an out-of-the-box personality couple,” florist and owner of Save the Date Florida detailed. “All of the rock n’ roll details that were showcased really added to the pizazz of this styled shoot, including those awesome black heels, the fun sunglasses, and the leather jacket really took it to that next level. Those items added with the colorful purple and red blooms really pulled this shoot together! “
Lush black velvet seating paired with geometric gold tables created a cozy lounge reminiscent of having backstage VIP concert access (with guitar, amp, and cymbals to boot!) The reception tablescape was adorned with matte black china and black-dipped flatware accented with gold chargers, candles, and striking blue glassware.
“Kate Ryan Event Rentals provided all the lounge furniture, linens, and tabletop rentals. Their beautiful black chandler sofa was a new piece for them. It gave that modern, edgy look I was going for,” the planner raved. “For the table, I chose the clear ghost chairs so the florals stood out more. Kate Ryan has such a great variety of tabletop pieces, and these gave it an elegant, romantic feel.”
The styled shoot featured another unique aspect, an adoptable “dog model!”
“We were fortunate to have with us a rescue dog from New Orleans, who was evacuated right before the hurricanes. The exposure from this shoot helped enable her to be adopted while showcasing our love for pets and tugging on the hearts of couples who want to include their fur babies in their wedding via Fairytail Pet Care!” the planner beamed.
As with many styled shoots, this creative collaboration between many small businesses is what the event planner attributes as one of her favorite aspects of the experience. Featuring local artisans and small businesses is a great way to personalize a wedding and create an impact beyond just a single day.
“I loved getting to be creative with different pieces and incorporate more local small businesses. A good friend of mine who is a small business owner designed the leather jacket, which I’m obsessed with, while another friend who started a jewelry business designed three different pairs of clay earrings specifically for this shoot. I also loved the record invitations! It was fun to step outside the box from the standard wedding style on those items,” the planned revealed. “Another favorite part was incorporating one of the venue’s signature cocktails, ‘Purple Rain.’ It not only fit the shoot with its vibrant colors, but the name fit with our rock n’ roll theme perfectly!”
